The driver gets a wide range of seat and steering wheel adjustments, making it easy to find the perfect driving position. The 495-litre boot is large enough for three large suitcases and a pushchair. Fold down the back seats, using levers in the boot, and you get 1,495 litres of load space.

All A4 Avants are well equipped, with even entry-level SE models having Audi’s easy to use MMI Infotainment with Bluetooth connectivity and climate control. Sport models feature a 10-speaker stereo and ambient LED interior lighting, while the S Line gets sports seats and part leather trim.

The A4 Avant is priced similarly to its premium rivals and offers just as much luxury. All the engines are efficient and the frugal diesels are well suited to high mileage drivers. Tax and insurance costs are competitive with rivals, while the Audi only needs servicing every two years.
