Thinking of buying a used Citroen Grand C4 Picasso?

The style of the car

The Grand C4 Picasso is a mid-size five-door MPV with a longer and taller body than the five-seat C4 Picasso. Its distinctive exterior styling is matched by a futuristic-looking dashboard and a multi-screen infotainment system that puts information where you can easily see it.

How it drives

The Grand C4 Picasso is extremely comfortable even after many hours on the road, with big windows that give a fantastic view out. The windscreen in particular is enormous. It’s quite a large car but light steering, a small turning circle and that view make the Grand C4 Picasso easy to drive around town. Parking sensors make manoeuvring simple. Petrol or diesel engines provide good acceleration up to motorway speeds but if you regularly carry heavy items in the boot you’ll need one of the more powerful options. Most engines come with a manual gearbox; the more powerful ones are available with an automatic. The Grand C4 Picasso can tow up to 1500kg.

The interior

The Grand C4 Picasso is a mid-size MPV with five-doors and seven seats in three rows. It’s the same size as the Ford Grand C-MAX and Vauxhall Zafira Tourer. Unusually for an MPV of this size, there’s space for adults in all seven seats. Three adults can fit side-by-side in row two, though they may rub shoulders. Tall people will find legroom in row three a bit limited, but it’s fine for short journeys. The back doors open wide to make getting in and out easy. Each seat in row two has Isofix mounts - three small child seats will fit side-by-side. Boot space is adequate with all five back seats in place but if you need room for five large suitcases, just fold away row three. All models come with climate control, Bluetooth and DAB radio. Higher spec models add features such as sat nav, Apple CarPlay compatibility and part-leather seats.

Running costs and reliability

The Grand C4 Picasso costs less to buy than some rivals yet you get just as much equipment. And the Citroen is physically bigger than many rivals, so you literally get more car for your money. All the available engines return good fuel economy. Petrol engines return around 56mpg according to official figures and the 1.6 BlueHDi diesel returns more than 70mpg. Even the more powerful 2.0 diesel returns over 60mpg. All Grand C4 Picasso models cost no more than £150 per year to tax, while insurance costs are low. Citroen’s reputation for reliability is no better than average but the Grand C4 Picasso feels robust and durable. Safety experts Euro NCAP gave the Grand C4 Picasso a full five-star safety rating.

How it compares with similar cars

The Grand C4 Picasso has many rivals including the Ford Grand C-MAX, Renault Grand Scenic, Vauxhall Zafira Tourer and Volkswagen Tiguan. The Citroen isn’t the most enjoyable of the bunch to drive but it’s more spacious, more comfortable and especially good value for money.
