Thinking of getting a Peugeot 5008?
The style of the car
The Peugeot 5008 is one of the more distinctive-looking mid-size SUVs you can buy. You certainly won’t lose it in a car park. It bears a close family resemblance to the Peugeot 3008 SUV but with a longer, taller body for a more spacious interior. GT-Line and GT models have different styling details that give them a sportier edge.
How it drives
The Peugeot 5008 feels light and agile to drive, despite being quite a big car. That makes it really easy to drive in town. You sit high up and have a good view out, so parking is straightforward. All models have parking sensors and some have cameras. It feels safe and solid on country roads and motorways and it gives you and your passengers a smooth ride, too. It’s a great car for long journeys. Petrol and diesel engines are available, with manual or automatic gearboxes depending on trim. Four-wheel drive isn’t available. All the engines give sprightly acceleration, although the more powerful options are best if you regularly carry a lot of people or heavy loads.
The interior
The Peugeot 5008 is a mid-size SUV with five doors and seven seats, arranged in three rows. It’s roughly the same size as the Nissan X-Trail or Skoda Kodiaq. The interior is very roomy for five adults but the third-row seats are more suitable for children. All the second-row seats have Isofix mounts and the five seats in the back two rows fold down individually (the third-row seats can be removed, as well) so you can adjust the layout to suit your needs. There’s a huge amount of boot space when the third-row seats are folded, with enough room for your holiday luggage and the dog. The interior might look intimidatingly futuristic but it’s actually very user-friendly and has an appealingly premium feel.

Running costs
The Peugeot 5008 is one of the most fuel-efficient cars of its type. According to official figures, petrol models give 35mpg to 48mpg and diesels give 41mpg to nearly 70mpg. There’s no hybrid or plug-in hybrid version available. Most models are in the lower road tax brackets and insurance costs are reasonable. Safety organisation Euro NCAP awarded the 5008 a full five-star rating.
How it compares with similar cars
Rivals for the Peugeot 5008 include the Hyundai Santa Fe and Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace. The 5008 loses a few points by comparison because its third-row seats don’t fold away into the boot floor and it’s not available with four-wheel drive. Overall, though, the 5008 is a practical and comfortable seven-seat SUV that looks great and is very cost-effective. Peugeot 5008 common questions
Peugeot has dramatically improved the reliability of its cars in recent years and the brand finished first out of 24 brands in the most recent J.D. Power UK Vehicle Dependability Study.
By mid-size SUV standards, the 5008 gives very good fuel economy. Some diesel models give nearly 70mpg. Road tax and insurance costs relatively little, as well.
The 5008 has more than enough passenger space to suit the needs of most families and the boot is large. All five seats in the back two rows can fold down individually.
Unlike most rivals, the Peugeot 5008 isn’t available with four-wheel drive. But if you don’t need that, the 5008 is a great family car that looks and feels a bit special.
