Thinking of getting a Skoda Kodiaq?

The style of the car

It’s a large SUV, so the Kodiaq has a strong presence, but its styling is quite subtle for this type of car. It looks and feels like a premium-brand car. The Scout version has a more rugged look, the Sport Line and high-performance vRS models look sportier. The interior is user-friendly and has a feeling of real quality.

How it drives

The Kodiaq’s a big car but it’s easy to drive thanks to light steering and a great view out. All models have parking sensors, and some have parking cameras, which make it easier to manoeuvre. The car feels safe and secure, giving a quiet and comfortable ride even on long motorway journeys, although its width means taking care on the narrowest city streets. There’s a wide range of petrol and diesel engines to choose from and all but the least powerful models have an automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. The more powerful models, especially the high-performance vRS, are quite quick. Maximum towing capacity is 1600kg to 2000kg depending on model.

The interior

The Kodiaq has five doors and either five or seven seats, depending on model, and is about the same size as the Kia Sorento or Peugeot 5008. Its interior is very practical and more spacious than in most rivals. All seats have space for adults, even in seven-seat versions. Seven-seat versions have a small boot with all the seats in place but in five-seat mode the Kodiaq’s boot is huge, with space for five large suitcases. The back seats slide backwards and forwards to create more leg room or boot space as needed and there are three sets of Isofix mounts. The dashboard is user-friendly and the interior feels well made. All models have climate control, cruise control and DAB radio, while high-spec models have sat nav, leather seats and a sunroof. If boot capacity is high on your list of requirements, this is one of our favourite used cars with big boots. Find out which are the best used cars with big boots, whatever size of car you’re considering.

Running costs and reliability

The Kodiaq is very good value compared with other large SUVs. All models give good fuel economy for this type of car – around 30-45mpg for petrol engines and 35-56mpg for diesels, according to official figures. Other than the sporty vRS model, tax and insurance costs are very competitive for a big family SUV. Safety organisation Euro NCAP awarded the Kodiaq, with its comprehensive set of driver safety systems, a full five-star safety rating.

How it compares with similar cars

There are a lot of large SUVs available. Those with seven seats include the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Peugeot 5008 and Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace. The Kodiaq is as good to drive as any of those, has a bigger boot and is better value.

We’ve listed our seven best used SUVs and the Kodiaq is one of them.
