Thinking of getting an Audi Q2?

Why buy the Audi Q2?

The Audi Q2 is a stylish small SUV with an upmarket image and high-tech features that’s well-equipped and feels good to drive. It’s very comfortable inside and offers excellent value for money compared with its premium rivals.

Audi Q2 range and updates

The Audi Q2 – sold new in the UK since 2016 – is a premium option if you’re looking for a compact SUV. It has a wide range of rivals, from more-affordable cars such as the Ford Puma and Seat Arona to other premium-brand cars such as the BMW X2 and Mini Countryman.

The Q2 was updated in 2020 – cars sold new after that have slightly sharper styling and newer interior tech. Petrol and diesel engines are available – there’s no hybrid or electric model. The sporty SQ2 model is the most powerful Audi Q2 for sale. Of the ‘regular’ Q2 models, buyers can choose from several well-equipped trims. Both front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models are available.

Audi Q2 tech and features

The Audi Q2 is one of the longest-running Audi models still being sold new, so its interior is slightly less high-tech than some others in the range, but it’s still beautifully put together. In fact, you may prefer the buttons and dials in the Q2 to the touchscreen-based infotainment systems in many newer Audi models.

Every Audi Q2 for sale has an infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Post-2020 cars have a slightly larger infotainment screen and most cars have a digital display screen in front of the driver, instead of traditional analogue dials.

Audi Q2 running costs and value

Running costs for the Q2 are very competitive compared with most other small SUVs. According to official figures, petrol-powered Q2s can return an average fuel economy of between 47.9mpg and 49.6mpg, with the exception of the powerful SQ2, which promises up to 34.9mpg. The diesels will get better mpg – up to 60.1mpg, depending on the model.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions range from 115g/km to 192g/km. Early Q2s will qualify for the pre-2017 Vehicle Excise Duty (car tax) rules, which could save you money, with tax on the most efficient cars costing just £20 a year. Later models will cost you a flat rate of £180, although more expensive models costing more than £40,000 when new attract a surcharge until they’re six years old, and VED on those is  £570 a year.

Audi Q2 vs rivals

The Audi Q2 is smaller than a lot of the smallest models from premium rivals. The BMW X1/X2 and Mercedes GLA, for example, are bigger and more expensive. The Q2 is closer in size to cars like the Mini Countryman or Volkswagen T-Roc and feels more premium than either of those, but some customers may prefer the extra space you get in the BMWs or the Mercedes or even Volvo’s XC40.

There are many small SUVs from just about every manufacturer that may tempt you away from the Audi, especially when they’re likely to be more affordable. Many offer hybrid and electric options, which you can’t get from the Audi.
