The A7 is effortless yet enjoyable to drive. All of the engines are powerful and the high-performance S7 and RS 7 models are very quick. Some models have front-wheel drive but most have Audi’s quattro four-wheel-drive system, which provides extra reassurance in slippery conditions.

The A7 is about the same size as rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz CLS and also executive saloons such as the Audi A6. It’s a large car, with five doors and a hatchback boot lid that make it very practical and versatile for something so luxurious. The 535-litre boot can carry four medium-sized suitcases with room to spare and two adults can sit very comfortably in the back. All A7s are well equipped, from the entry-level Sport trim through to Sporty S line models and even sportier S7 and RS7 versions.  

Running costs and reliability of a used Audi A7

The A7 costs much the same as its rivals to own. High-spec models are quite expensive but the A7 is good value as a used buy and its efficient engines help to keep running costs down. It’s a beautifully built, high-quality car that should be reliable and which has a maximum five-star from independent safety organisation Euro NCAP.

How the Audi A7 compares with similar cars

The A7 is a five-door coupe version of the similarly sized A6 saloon. It’s smaller than the Audi A8 but bigger than the Audi A5. The A7 is roughly the same size as the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and Mercedes-Benz CLS and offers a similar mix of luxury and sportiness.
