Thinking of buying a used Alfa Romeo Giulia?

The style of the car

The Giulia is an elegant and desirable premium saloon car. Stunning Italian design and a high quality finish give it a fantastic look and feel. The four-door layout makes it a great family choice and the large boot makes it practical for weekends away. All models have stylish alloy wheels, while Veloce and Quadrifoglio models get a body kit that makes them look even better.

How it drives

Quick steering and fantastic grip make the Giulia great to drive on all roads. Engines are smooth and powerful giving you quick acceleration, while low noise levels and supportive seats help make the Giulia comfortable over long distances. Good road visibility and parking sensors as standard make manoeuvring easier and the automatic gearbox, which is standard on all models, will take the strain out of city driving. There’s no four-wheel drive option, but the Alfa is a reasonable tow car.

The interior

The Giulia’s beautifully styled and well built interior looks and feels special. There’s lots of head and legroom for passengers in the back, plus a number of useful storage compartments. The large 480-litre boot is well-shaped and will comfortably hold two suitcases and a pram.

There’s loads of standard equipment, with the entry-level Super getting air con, cruise control and touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay. Sprint adds keyless entry and leather trim, while the Lusso Ti has wireless phone charging. The Veloce Ti and Quadrifoglio get sports seats. Before 2019 the Sprint was called the Speciale and the Lusso Ti was known as the Veloce. All versions get the same kit, although Apple CarPlay wasn’t available on the earlier cars.

Running costs and reliability

The Giulia represents great value thanks to its attractive used prices and generous standard equipment levels. All the engines are efficient, but the diesels are the best for high mileage drivers. Tax bills are low, while prepaid servicing plans keep maintenance costs competitive with rivals. The Guilia is well built and reliable, finishing third overall in the Auto Express Driver Power Awards. It also gets a good range of safety aids, resulting in a five star Euro NCAP rating.

How it compares with similar cars

The Giulia is Alfa Romeo’s biggest saloon car and as such it’s larger than the MiTo supermini and Giulietta hatchback. It’s more stylish and better equipped than both the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series. The Giulia has won many awards, including What Car’s Best Performance Car two years in a row.
