Suzuki reveals new Across SUV
Suzuki has revealed a new SUV in its line-up called Across.
The model is based on the same platform as the Toyota Rav4 after the companies signed an agreement to share electrified powertrain technology.
As such, the vehicle, which goes on sale this autumn, has a plug-in hybrid powertrain that uses a 2.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and 18.1kWh battery pack. The total power output is 180bhp and 270Nm of torque, with an impressive electric-only range of 47 miles.
The Across is differentiated from the Rav4 through updated styling, such as new front and rear bumper, new LED headlights and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, there’s a new multi-function steering wheel and a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with media and navigation integration, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
There will be some off-road ability too, with the Across getting a Trail setting that can send power to the wheel with the most grip, which should make it easier to traverse tough terrain.
Meanwhile, the driver can also tailor the car’s setup to run on either hybrid or electric, while a hold function allows charge to be saved for later, when driving through urban areas.
Although prices for the Across have not yet been confirmed, it is likely to be similar to the Rav4’s £33,450 entry point.
