Future Polestar vehicles will feature Waymo self-driving technology
Polestar has announced a new partnership with Waymo, which will pave the way for the Swedish car maker’s vehicles to be fitted with the American tech firm’s self-driving systems in the future.
The agreement has been signed between Waymo and Polestar’s parent company Volvo Car Group with plans to help integrate level four autonomy into the firm’s cars.
There are five levels of autonomy. Level one provides basic levels of assistance such as nudging the steering wheel to keep a car within road markings, riding to level five which is considered a fully-autonomous vehicle which doesn’t require a human to maintain control of the car.
Level four - which is being planned by Waymo and Polestar - requires a human to be present as the car may be unable to deliver self-driving capabilities in all situations.
Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, said: “Waymo technology will open up exciting opportunities for Polestar. I believe there will be a strong market for truly premium autonomous mobility services.”
