A day in the life of a Sales Support Operative

Sales Support are an important area for our business. Sales Support are the people you speak to when you want to book an appointment, make an enquiry or get in touch with a member of our staff. They are likely to be the first people you speak to when you contact Imperial Cars. We interviewed Jordanna to find out what it’s like working as a Sales Support Operative at Imperial Cars.

What does a typical day as a Sales Support Operative involve?

As a Sales Support Operative, my day involves answering any enquiries we have received, picking up inbound calls and answering customer’s questions, passing customers through to the branches and acting as their overflow if the branches are unable to take the call.

We answer enquiries that have been generated through our website and also external websites that we promote our vehicles on. The customer enquiries can consist of part exchange valuations, finance requests and questions asked by the customer such as ‘how many owners has this vehicle had?’ or ‘please can I book to see this vehicle on Saturday?’.

We call and email our customers and once they have had contact with someone from the team, that sales team member will then stay with that customer and answer any further questions up until they book an appointment when it is then passed over to the branch sales team.  

We make sure customers have all their questions answered about vehicles, finance or part exchange and then set their appointment up so when the customers do come in they have the best experience and get the most from their time spent with us.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

I love talking to customers and making sure they are happy with everything before they come in. I like chatting to them and building a relationship whereby I can use my knowledge to make suggestions to help them make the decision best for them.  It’s always a great feeling when they are happy and excited before going to their appointment because you have helped them out. We also make a follow up call after their appointment to see how their visit to the showroom was and if we can help them further;  it’s always great when they say they are very happy with their new purchase you helped them with!

What is it like working here? 

It’s great working in our office, we have all become one big family that look out for each other and ensure that even when we are out of the business, on holiday or days off, our customers are looked after by another member of the team.

What benefits do you get?

We get one day off in the week and one day of the weekend off. We are all open to swapping shifts with each other if it helps someone out. Our Manager is also very flexible when it comes to booking holiday, we work on a first come first serve basis but she is very accommodating to everyone’s needs.

What top tips would you give someone who wants to apply to work as a Sales Support Operative?

Don’t feel as though you need to have an extensive knowledge of cars because you learn so much on the job! The first few days always feel a bit over whelming but everyone surprises themselves with how much they learn so quickly and how easy it is to pick up the processes!

It’s a great job where you grow with confidence with uncapped commission! As long as you are a friendly and a driven person you will fit right in!
