Imperial Car Supermarkets – Making the moves for bigger and better

Imperial Car Supermarkets has been crowned Supermarket of the Year 2015 at a glitzy award ceremony in London's West End.

The gong was one of nine presented as part of this year's Auto Trader Click Awards, with the winners announced during a special ceremony held at BAFTA in Piccadilly on July 2. Former England rugby international Martin Bayfield was there to present the award, alongside Auto Trader's editorial director Jon Quirk and the company's sales director Sharon Randall. 

More than 23,000 customer reviews were taken into account during the judging process. The panel consisted of various digital retail experts, including representatives from the Telegraph Media Group and Amazon. 

The judges said: "Imperial deployed a compelling integrated marketing mix that incorporated superb digital design and presentation, and excellent use of social media to drive the business forward." 

Now in their eighth year, the Auto Trader Click Awards celebrate excellence and innovation in digital car retailing. As consumer behaviour has changed following advances in technology, the awards have become an increasingly important marker for digital retailing performance within the automotive industry.

Neil Smith, Operations Director at Imperial Car Supermarkets, said: "We're delighted to have been named Supermarket of the Year, particularly as it was reviews from our own customers that helped us to the title. The awards event is already in our diaries for next year as it's something the whole team really looks forward to. Hopefully we'll be back to win again in 2016."

In June, Imperial Car Supermarkets was recognised for its successful social media strategy. As part of the 2015 Car Dealer Conference and Automotive Expo held at Silverstone racetrack, the company was listed as being among the top-three most influential dealers on Twitter. The firm's Twitter account, which has close to 4,000 followers, was given a 'Klout Score' of 68.05, putting it in third place out of 150 UK dealerships.

Imperial's social campaign came in for additional praise on July 8 when the company was highly commended at the 2015 Motor Trader Industry Awards in the Social Media category which were held at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s Park Lane and even had Sir Stirling Moss even presented an award.

Upon entering what is one of London’s finest hotels it was a wash of posh frocks and bow ties. There was champagne on arrival as you entered into the ‘Great Room’ which was lit with huge chandeliers and there was a sea of round tables ready to accommodate 1200 of the motor trades finest on the 25th anniversary of the awards.

We also managed to hit Number 1 Independent dealer on Twitter, conducted by AM-Online in November 2014.
